Seidr is an oracular tradition that uses the staff, the song and a raised seat as key elements in its ritual. It is a Viking shamanic tradition which was practised in this country so also belongs to the ancestors of this land. Journeying on song and with a staff is a focussed and power filled way of working that offers a different experience than journeying with the drum. At this meeting we will explore different ways of using the song and the staff to deepen our personal practice and working with others. We will also work together in a community seidr ceremony. Although the seidr tradition uses song being able to sing in tune is not important.
First Journey Intention – singing self on journey with staff
For those new to Seidr – I am going on a journey to meet the spirit of my staff to ask how we can work together
For those who have worked with Seidr before – I am going on a journey to meet Seidr workers from my lineage to ask for their insights about the craft of Seidr.
if you are told you do not have seidr workers in your lineage ask to meet the first Völva.
n.b – Völva is an old norse term for someone who practices Seidr.
Second journey intention – journey in pairs
Sung journey to ask for the help your partner needs at this time with an issue of their choice
1st person tells their partner what they want help with and sings them on the journey. Once the partner is in the journey with their spirits they give a predermined signal and the 1st person stops singing. The partner sings everything that is happening on the journey. When it is completed they ask to be sung home.

Third Activity – Seidr Ceremony to ‘strengthen the web of life for the best outcome for all’
A discussion took place with all 25 participants until we came to an intention that everyone could stand for. Three people were on the Hjel (raised seat where the seidr work takes place) doing the work with their spirits on behalf of the group. The group sung them on the journey sending power to enable them to do the work. On their return from the journey they recounted what had been done.
